Delegation: You don’t need to be perfect

One thing that I have been pondering lately is that to level up further in our business one of the things that I need to do is to help my team leaders learn how to better delegate.

You see, when we were smaller they were the people being delegated to.

But as we have grown, we have identified leaders and their teams have grown.

But learning to delegate effectively and lead a team is a process.

Take our accounts manager Jing for example.

Jing recently wrote in our team’s slack channel that she is going on holiday (as per our process).

She then proceeded to say that our new accounts team member Donica would be covering her role but if people wanted to contact her they could do so on slack and she would respond when she was able.

I jumped on slack (fiercely protective of Jings holiday) saying that people should contact Donica (and not Jing while she was on holidays) and then Donica would contact Jing only if she needed to escalate anything.

Thus dramatically minimising the messages Jing received while on holidays

A small tweak that made a big difference.

I am continuously on the hunt to find opportunities to support our leaders with delegation.

And it’s not just for our team. We support our clients (and their team leaders who have VA’s reporting to them) with delegation. Often suggesting small tweaks in the delegation strategies which can lead to big differences in the outcome.

You don’t need to be a perfect delegator (heck I am not), but being open to feedback, ideas and tweaking your approach is a sure fire way to get better and better results.
